Board Guy Category: RAM – Bare (No Shields)

Board Guy Category: RAM – Bare (No Shields)
Notes: Memory modules with no aluminium heat spreaders or shields attached. Includes most desktop RAM (DIMM) and laptop RAM (SO-DIMM) modules.
Overview
RAM (Random Access Memory) modules are commonly found inside desktop computers, laptops, servers and networking equipment.
Bare RAM contains a row of gold-plated edge contacts and a dense concentration of memory chips, making it one of the highest-value categories within The Board Guy grading system.
This category applies to RAM modules with no aluminium heat spreaders or shields attached.
Identifying Bare RAM
• Long, narrow circuit board.
• Gold-plated edge connector along the bottom.
• Multiple black memory chips arranged in a row.
• No aluminium shields or heat spreaders attached.
• Commonly found in desktop computers, servers and laptops.
Both desktop RAM (DIMM) and laptop RAM (SO-DIMM) belong in this category.
Preparation for Recycling
Leave all chips attached and keep modules intact. Where practical, separate RAM from lower-grade circuit boards and other electronic scrap.
If aluminium heat spreaders or shields are still attached, the RAM may be graded under a shielded RAM category instead.
Keeping RAM separate helps ensure it receives the correct grading and value.
